Re-elect State Representative Marcia Moody

Rockingham District 12 Newmarket & Newfields

My Two Terms as a State Legislator

As a member of the Majority Party after over 100 years of being in the Minority, I feel that we were able to accomplish things for the very first time. We passed legislation that had been previously stalled by the process and never having enough votes to pass. This time we were finally able to pass into law some of the very important issues as defined by our agenda.

Of the five "Es". Economics, Environment, Energy, Education and Elections... let me list what we accomplished last term.

    Economics:
  • Provided electric bill relief.
  • Provided two increases to the state minimum wage.
  • Made part time employees eligible for unemployment benefits if they lose their job through no fault of their own.
  • Preserved the pension benefits of New Hampshire workers, including the solvency and stability of the New Hampshire Retirement System
  • Encouraged the development of affordable housing by providing initiatives for developers and supported enabling legislation to encourage affordable housing.

    Environment:
  • Protected the quality and quantity of our surface waters and groundwater by strengthening the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act and supporting the recommendations of the groundwater commission.
  • Protected local control of groundwater withdrawal.
  • Passed legislation to reduce and safely manage the waste stream in New Hampshire by encouraging reuse and recycling and by banning the incineration of construction and demolition debris.
  • Passed legislation for the removal of Mercury added products from the waste stream.

    Energy:
  • Established minimum renewable standards for energy portfolios.
  • Supported RIGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative) legislation that lowers greenhouse gas emissions and supports NH’s economic interests.
  • Established a commission to study the possibility of tidal power generation under the Little Bay and General Sullivan Bridges. I serve on that commission.
  • Established an energy efficiency and sustainable energy board to coordinate sustainable energy programs in NH.

    Education:
  • Passed legislation that will finally bring public kindergarten to all New Hampshire students.
  • For the first time, the Legislature defined an adequate education to meet the Supreme Court mandate.
  • Developed an adequate education costing formula in fulfillment of the Legislature’s constitutional responsibility to cost an adequate education.
  • Revised our state laws relating to special education.
  • Raised high school graduation rates by changing the dropout age to 18.
  • Expanded alternative education programs in high schools for students who do not do well in traditional classrooms.

    Elections:
  • Ensured fair, open and honest elections by eliminating straight ticket voting and candidate crossover on the ballot.
  • Standardized registrations forms
  • Established a fair and independent ballot law commission
  • Preserved the ability to verify election results.

In order to continue protecting New Hampshire citizens with my environmental emphasis and to promote affordable health care legislation, I want to return to Concord to continue working for you. Therefore, I ask for your vote in November.
